Customer Generated Variables for Pre-Fill Customization Options with URL Parameters
Steven Cantor
Now that variables are included in our Customily designs it would be great to somehow allow the customer to set that variable and all designs they then shop for reflect that variable. For example, if I have a collection of Family Reunion designs where the family last name appears as a variable on all designs it would be really great if the customer could enter their name once somewhere and then all the designs populate with their last name. This assume this would involve adding a specific form field at the top of a collection that says "Enter your family name here" and then all designs with the variable get populated with that name.

Hello Steven Cantor! Thanks for sharing your idea.
In line with what you described, the current behavior is that once the variable is set—whether through a URL parameter or entered by the buyer—it persists across all products that share the same variable.
I think that would somewhat cover what you described, except that the field/variable is set in one specific product, and then you see that value prefilled in the other products.

Augusto D'Amario Thanks. Yes, but it's just pretty awkward that a customer would have to be on a specific product to set the variable. I'm wondering if there might be a hack like create a product with just variables and ask the customer to fill it out before the start browsing. I'll play around with it a bit to see if I can create something usable.

Steven Cantor Augusto D'Amario that is a great idea. we could even have customers login with their account, fill out all details about them and then browse the store with products already personalised for them. ofcourse we would need to somehow map options from different options sets

tim I was thinking some type of "gift finder" form/wizard type of thing would kill. 1. Who are you shopping for? 2. What is the occasion? 3. What is their name? 4. How old are they? 5. What year were they born? Go>
